The best people in the UK to identify your apple are the lovely folk at the Brogdale Horticultural Trust in Kent. That's the home of the National Fruit Collection (which includes 1,867 varieties of apple trees!)

You don't have to go and visit them: you can send them samples by post and (for a fee of £18.80, less for Brogdale supporters and visitors on special open days) they'll ID your tree. They're a charity, so they need to make ends meet. I've used this service several times for myself and friends, and I've never known them fail.

Here's the page on their website to give you full instructions on what they'll need: http://www.brogdale.org.uk/fruit_identif...
Reply:Here is a link to a site with several apple pictures and descriptions.
Reply:Some profesionals can recognize sort of tree by flowers color and fruits. And they can easily change sort in summer or latest, but it should not be very old tree. You have to ask help prof.gardener.
Reply:It sounds like a Granny Smith. They are lousy for eating raw but make fantastic pies.

Here is a good site to check.

Reply:take some into someone who might be able to tell ya like a gardener, landscaper, maybe someone who runs a produce stand, I'm sure one of them would be able to help you. Or just look it up on the internet. like search for apples+types+descriptions or something like that

I think they are crap apples

go here and seeif that is what the flowers look like
Reply:I assume that it is no longer possible to trace the person who planted it? Wait until the harvest and take an apple to your local garden centre.
Reply:I think that the R.H.S. offer an identification service. Contact them for details.
Reply:ask the serpent
Reply:What color are they when ripe? Look at the bottom of the apple does it have well defined bumps or less defined bumps? If they have well defined bumps they are probably a "delicious " apple , if the bumps are not as high it may be a cooking type apple...like Johnathan or Winesap's. How sweet and dense is the apple? Cooking apples are less sweet and firmer fleshed.

The only way to tell for sure is to take a ripe apple and compare it to other apples.
