Yes, it's very good, as long as the ashes are from wood only and do not contain any remnants of burned paper or plastics with a chemical content. Clean wood ash is good for the soil and growing plants. It adds Potassium (potash) to the soil. Hope this answers your question.

Are fireplace ashes good or bad for flower gardens?
And thank "you" for choosing a best answer. Always nice when an asker responds back in regards to the question. Report It
Reply:Only in small amounts, and watered in well. Once, my husband put the fireplace ashes around a new, small tree and it killed it dead as a hammer. Just be careful about how much you use.
Reply:If you apply the ashes in a thin layer over the flower bed and water them in they are a good source of potassium, not nitrogen. The ashes have a high pH and can cause chemical burns to your plants if you lay them on too thick. It is also OK to use the ashes on your lawn as well.
Reply:Excellent! Mix it into the soil. Ashes are full of useful nitrogen.
