Can I sprinkle lime in my flower beds to keep the insects off that are eating them?

I was always told to use lime in a vegetable garden to keep the insects off of them. I have recently discovered these insects eating the leaves in my flower bed and was wondering if it would be alright to use lime in there or will I kill my flowers. I don't know what these insects are; I've never seen them before and can't find them on the internet.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Reply:Never heard of lime for insect control. I would spray with a soap and water solution. Insects don't like soap.
Reply:Not a clever move. Lime alters the soil ph, and should not be scattered around as an insect repellent. If you can describe the insects and, what damage they are doing, you will surely find an answer.
