I'm trying to start my first garden and I do not know what kind of flower or plant that can withstand year around. You see I live in
north Texas where there is very hot summers and very cold winters(Snow). I am looking for a plant or flower that can with last the harsh temperature north Texas brings year around.
What kind of plant or flower I can use?
snowdrops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Daylilies can take harsh weather and many are rebloomers so you can have flowers much of summer and fall. Some cacti are really hardy and have pretty flowers, are able to withstand extremes and are native to Texas.
You can also try checking out the Texas gardening forums at gardenweb, they have tons of helpful people and will be happy to help you get started

Reply:Check with a local garden club and find out what works in your area.A good garden center(not home depot) can also give good advice on plants.
Reply:Peony is a great shrub like plant, has to have freezing weather to flower, good to cut and have in the house

I also like to plant Clematis along side of them

Iris will multiply and are great cut flowers
Reply:Yucca, Locust trees, Mesquite trees, Indian Paintbrush, Texas bluebonnet.
