Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to keep a dog out of a flower garden?

you can dig a 2'x2' spot and fill it with sand, then bury the dogs favorite toy about half way and take the dog to this spot. do this as often as possible for a couple of days or so, till he learns that is his digging spot. in the mean time sprinkle black pepper here and there in the garden. do NOT use anything hot, as the dog cannot get rid of hot pepper in his mouth or in his nose. (it suffers terribly) black pepper is strong enough and after one or two times he will know to stay away.

if you do these two things consecutively you should have a well trained pooch in just a few days.

hope this helps.

Training! Supervision! Fence or some type of barrier will also work, but please do not use the shock treatment.
Reply:anytime he goes in there eat all remaining food in his dish, then don't feed him for 24 hours...
Reply:Yes, there are a couple ways.

1.) This is what we use at my house, it works well. It's a product called Keep Off. You can buy it at a home improvment store for about 8 bucks. All you do is spray it on your lawn, garden, or flower bed and the smell will keep the dogs off. You reapply every 30days.

or

2.) A invisable fence. This is a pricier option but it works the best. It's a collar you put on your dog and when they cross into your flower garden they get shocker until they get out of it. After the first time, they normally learn their lesson and stay away. You can get these at a pet store, wal-mart, or a home improvent store.
Reply:The only way you will probably be able to keep your dog out of your flowers and not lose the ability to enjoy the beauty of your flowers is to invest in one of those electronic fences that you bury. Everytime your dog crosses, it gets a low voltage shock. I doubt he will try to cross it many times.
Reply:Now shooting it dead would work but maybe just a touch extreme when you see him try to go in there yell no and slap his nose he wants a nice place to roll around and dig and just basically chill so try and make a place like that for him elsewhere and he after you punish him take him to his chill spot and say here or something like that it will probably work I dont know how stubborn this dog is or if it isn't your dog at all call the owner and tell him or call the pound or shoot him or whatever I mean it isn't your dog and other people need to learn to control their pets.
Reply:red pepper, it will burn when he ifts his leg
Reply:Shoot it dead---and, you'll never ,ever, have this problem reoccur again---at least , not from that one dog!!!---lol!!!
Reply:Every time he/she goes in to garden wet them with water only a puppy loves water, lol
Reply:make it into concrete that way its easier to pick up the sh1t
Reply:I recently asked Farmers Almanac this same question and they told me to put moth balls, or citrus (lemon peel, orange peel), or to simply lay larger sized rocks throughout as beautification and the dog will not fit in there to dig. I simply bordered my hostas with sandstones and my LARGE dog now stays clear... Good Luck.
