I am trying to turn my front lawn into a flower garden. I have tried paper and sawdust to kill the grass grows

sawdust did not work the grass has come back. It pulls up easily but there is to much. Is there an easier way to get rid of the grass?

I could not agree more with VINEGAR!!!! It's cheap, easy and non-toxic. I use this in weeds and grass that grow up through mulch. It kills any thing it comes in contact.
Reply:You can buy a spray on grass killer at any home improvement/hardware store.

Another solution: Spray white vinegar on your lawn! Guaranteed to kill it... naturally.
Reply:Try using black plastic on the desired area you want to use for your flower garden.take a pair of scissors and cut a x in every place you want to plant your flowers.tuck the cut edges under and dig desired hole for each plant.the black plastic will bake the grass til it dies and also will prevent the grass from getting daylight.with no daylight the grass will wither away.you can then put your ground cover over plastic.such as rock, mulch.
Reply:When we bought our house, there was no flower garden in the front yard. I needed a fairly large one quick so I could transplant my stuff from our previous residence. Granted I didn't do the whole yard, but I did do about a 50' x 20' area and all around the house. I laid down wet newspapers (wet them well or they tend to blow around!) and covered them with mulch. I was able to plant things about a week later. The newspaper kills the stuff underneath and then breaks down itself (compost!) All my plants are doing very well and its been almost 4 years. Good Luck!
Reply:Do what I did - rip it up. It's a bit of labor, but you get it all up. And it's much faster than what you're trying. And good exercise!
Reply:if you are talking the whole yard...lay down some of those big blue tarps...couple days everything is dead. \\smaller areas..use landscaping fabric. its black, you just cut slits where you want a flower and cover w/ mulch
