What can I plant to deter deers from eating up my flower garden? What plants do I need to stay away from?

The best way I've found to keep the deer out my yard and garden is to plant things that they don't like. Go to: http://www.bgperennials.com/deer_resista... for a list of deer-resistant plants.

And here: http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/deer-resi... for more information...

And for a short pdf document, go here: http://www.heirloomgardenexperts.com/pdf...

Hand bars of soap up. They hate it!!! This is what orchards do when they plant new trees.
Reply:Marigolds are supposed to be unpleasant to deer and rabbits. Try planting those around the perimeter of the garden. It is also supposed to help to place an opened bar of soap in a knee-hi nylon and hang it from a tree or a post. I believe it is Irish Spring soap that is recommended.
Reply:You haven't thought of a impenetrable hedge or highish fence?
Reply:There is not really a certain type of plant you can plant. Deer are browser feeders. They will pick and select through a bunch of plants to find one they like. The only real way to stop them coming in is to set up fences..(remeber some deer can jump 12 feet from standing still, and thats 12 feet straight up. Either that or set up something to scare them away. But then they will become conditioned and it will lose its effectiveness. I was a gamekeeper for about six years and they are very difficult to control or manage, try to use a .308 calibre remington rifle.

still to see a hedge that a deer couldnt get through eventually and the fence would have to be approx 12 foot high
Reply:Best low cost solution which keeps you and the deer happy, Salt Block. Its like ice cream vs. brussel sprouts for kids.
Reply:Deer have their favorites, but will eat just about anything if they are hungry.

I have heard that the urine of some of their natural predators will work. You can get that at some specialty stores and on line. Of course that may only work so long also. The deer will probably eventually get used to the smell and return.
Reply:Actualy ther's nothing you have to plant in order to deter deers in garden, all you've to do you must soround your garden with high fance.
