What is the best way to plant/plan a flower bed in my garden?

The first thing you want to do is layout the area(s) that you want your plants to thrive in. Once you have selected the area(s) you should strip off the grass and till up the ground. Then you can go and buy your plants at a garden center. Most garden centers are very helpful in helping you select the right plant material for your specifications. Sun/shade. Temp/water. color, etc. Once you have selected your plants, do not forget to pick up soil compost and fertilizer to give your plants a good start. Mix the compost in with your soil and add moderately fertilizer with the compost. Once you have your plants in the ground, you can use mulch to spruce the area up, then water, water, and water. But not too much. Probably once a day until plants are well established. As far as timing goes, you will want to do this before it gets really hot, or else your plants will have a hard time surviving.

Online there is a place you can plan your garden with an interactive planner. At Better Homes and Gardens: http://www.bhg.com/bhg/category.jhtml?ca...

They'll ask you to join the site, but it is free.

Assuming you live in the US, another thing you'll be wanting to do is contact your local county extension agency for recommended plants for your area. You can either call them, or you can view their website. Here is the link to the state list of agencies: http://www.greenviewfertilizer.com/onlin...

It will help you alot to know your zone as well. Go to: http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/

Your local nurseries generally only carry plants that are hardy to your zone, and they only begin to sell them in the season in which they will thrive.

Trust your instinct, and go have a little fun!

Happy Gardening!
Reply:make sure to buy plants that will work in the area. like full sun plants that will be in the sun or sun/partial shade or shade only, etc. you just have to have even spacing really. i'm no expert, and i buy whatever looks pretty at walmart. so far everything is alive and beautiful!
