What is a GOOD way to get Squirls OUT of your flower garden/ bird food!?

Metal bird feeders with a spring controlled bar for the birds to sit on are great for keeping squirrels out of the bird feeder. Put in on a post, because it is heavy. Then, there are Owl decoys that are supposed to keep squirrels out of gardens. Kind of like a scarecrow, only it is the silhouette of an owl, or some other bird of prey. Good luck.

Man that's a tough problem. I'm afraid I'd have to agree with the gun route. A bb gun might sting and not kill, a shotgun would definitely thin the population for you.

Depends on where you live tho.

I'd say....if you are willing to do so. Feed the squirrels dried ears of corn. You can get this at farm markets and similar places. It's just dried (120 day) field corn or something similar.

I'd recommend you make a feeder......it takes minutes to make and probably less than $5.00, unless you have materials around your place.

Otherwise just toss the corn (2-3) out away from the feeder and into a brushy area, but where you can still see it.....so you know it's squirrels using it. If they can get an easy meal there, they may leave your bird feeder alone.

They're cute and adorable, but can be a royal pain.

lol

Reply:bb gun!
Reply:Special bird feeders are sold that claim to be squirrel-proof. Look for something that hangs and has a broad sloping metal or plastic cover... that way birds can fly up, but squirrels will slide off. You should find one at any small/large local garden center.

As for the flower garden, I'm not too sure. You might ask (while you're buying the squirrel proof feeder) if there are any types of plants you could place in your garden that would naturally repel squirrels.

Good luck.
Reply:put out food just for them, away from the bird feeders.
