Can tomatoes be planted in a flower garden? I have no room any wheres else for a few tomatoe plants. bad idea?

Well of course they can! You can plant them wherever they will fit, and they'll look just fine. That's the very definition of a "cottage garden" - mixing veggies, herbs, shrubs, annuals, etc. Just make sure they get tons of sun and lots of fertilizer.

Sure -- the only thing you will want to think about is what kind of fertilizers and pesticides you may have used that you don't want to expose you and your family to. Aside from that, it's great to mix it up between vegetables and flowers! My asparagus patch is right in the midst of my flowers and ever year I let a few go so that I get that light, airy foliage in the middle of my zinnias. Dill does the same thing. Tomatoes are not a beautiful plant, though the fruits are attractive -- all the more reason to hide them well!
Reply:There are certain plants that tomatos "don't like" dill, for one..or corn, or fennel. They like mint, garlic, onions, carrots, borage, chervil, marigolds, pansies, petunias....lots of stuff!
Reply:Hi,

How about growing them in a plastic 5 gallon bucket with other herbs like Basil and Chives.

Reply:It is fine. You should use fertilize made especially for tomatoes rather than for flowers, though. Although the flower kind won't hurt, you will get more tomatoes with the speciall stuff.
Reply:As long as the tomatos get plenty of sun and water they can be planted anywhere. They will grow and spread so leave plenty of room around the tomato plants so they don't crowd out the flowers.
Reply:Sure..why not. You can also plant them in 5 gallon containers (those buckets used for mixing compound work great).
