Need info on how to keep dogs and cats out of flower garden?
There is an awesome product called REPELL which you can get at PetCo or Fosters Smith on line or through their catalog. It comes in both a spray and granulated form. I prefer the granulated form outside because it continues to work with irrigation and rain for about 2 weeks. Kept the cats from using my container gardens as their liter boxes. Kept my neighbor's German Shepard from defecating on my lawn. You may have to continue treatment until they re-locate their habit but if you continue to use it as a barrier around your property, after a few months, they are conditioned to go elsewhere. Works for me!
Reply:I didn't agree with this when my mom did it, but to get the cats out of our garden she put a bowl of milk with a little bit of rat poison in it. They never came back.
Reply:get a watch mouse
Reply:Did you try moth balls?
Reply:While Citrus oils, cayenne pepper and such will keep cats out of your garden, unfortunately you have to keep applying it every time it rains.

The best thing I've found is Coco Bean Mulch. A left over product from coco bean production, it smells like chocolate. It is very light, but when you put it down, and wet it, it forms a mat that is difficult for weeds to get through (a harmless fungus grows through it and increases the mat effect). In addition, every cat that has ever visited my gardens since I put it down hates the smell and the texture and stay away. I had some cats that seemed to like leaving deposits in my grass, but I crushed some of the shells, and spread the dust over the grass where it settled down and was invisible, and cats no longer even come into the garden. It seems to work for a long time; I haven't put any new mulch down for a year. My daughter uses it, and her cat only stays in the garden long enough to go in and out the door.

Unfortunately dogs like the smell and will eat it, and in large amounts, it is poisonous to them, just like chocolate is. So you'd have to add citrus oil or cayenne pepper on top. You can cut up bits of orange/lemon/grapefruit peal, which does last longer and dosn't wash away so quick.

I had an infestation of mice about a year ago, and bought some electronic mice repellers. After our house was clear, my neighbour borrowed a couple that I had used upstairs. it worked for them as well, but their dog would not enter the house as long as the mice repellers were on, so you may wish to find something like that for the dogs.

Or, a friend of mine used to get Lion droppings from the London Zoo. He said it kept both deer and dogs out of the garden. (but not cats)
Reply:Mothballs.. They have helped in my experience or if you can catch them in your flowers , take a water hose to them. A good dose of cold water always helps.
Reply:Read the forums at http://www.suburbangarden.com/ they will know for sure
